[OpsMgr 2012] Making DELL management packs lighter for your management servers ( #OpsMgr #SCOM #DELL #ManagementPack #SDK )

DELL has recently released a very comprehensive management pack suite for Operations Manager, you can download the suite here.

The suite can monitor Dell servers, DRAC and chassis:
  • Server inband monitoring – for Windows servers with an Operations Manager agent installed
  • Server Out of Band monitoring – for servers with any operating system (or without OS if this matters) it uses a WS-Management interface provided with the latest iDRAC models
  • Remote DRAC monitoring – for DRAC monitoring
  • Remote CMC monitoring – for CMC monitoring
The suite also provides a way to enable or disable specific monitoring scopes directly from the monitoring space of the Operations Manager Console, this functionality is called “Feature Monitoring”, and the ability to correlate chassis slot with actual servers.
Alas all this goodness has a major drawback many of these modules have dependencies to the management servers and use direct access to the SDK

[Toolkit] Coretech WMI and PowerShell Browser ( #Powershell #WMI )

Coretech is happy to announce their first version of WMI and PowerShell Explorer tool.

The main reason of this tool is to simplify their own work and hopefully, it will help others also who are working with Configuration Manager.

Description

Coretech WMI and PowerShell Explorer is a freeware tool with two main feature sets.
A powerful WMI tool that allows you to connect to and work with WMI locally and remotely. With the tool you can browse WMI namespaces, classes, methods, properties and class instances. Besides being a WMI browser the Coretech WMI and PowerShell Explorer allows also to export query results and namespace methods.
A PowerShell Explorer tool that allows you to import built-in or custom PowerShell modules to browse help topics. Besides assisting you with the built-in/online help, the tool is cloud integrated with all the System Center Configuration Manager PowerShell examples found on www.cm12sdk.net

[Orchestrator] Integrating Cluster Aware Updating with Operations Manager Maintenance Mode – Pre and Post Update Scripts ( #SCOM #Orchestrator )

Neil Peterson has published on June the 17th 2013 a step-by-step post to demonstrating how to use the Cluster Aware Updating Pre and Post-Update Script execution feature to place each node of the target cluster into Operations Manager maintenance mode before the cluster aware updating process is executed. This exercise can be extended to any pre or post activates that you would like to perform on you cluster nodes at maintenance time.

[OpsMgr 2012] System Requirements: System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager ( #OpsMgr #SCOM ) - Updated: June 24, 2013

This document provides information about the operating systems, hardware configurations, software requirements, installation combinations, and security configurations for System Center 2012 R2 Operations Manager. This document focuses on the system requirements, and it mentions unsupported configurations only when necessary. If operating systems, hardware configurations, software requirements, installation combinations, and security configurations are not presented here, they have not been tested and are not supported.

Note : For system requirements across all components of System Center, see System Requirements for System Center 2012 R2.

The Prerequisites checker is no longer a separate option in Setup. However, you can begin the installation process to check the hardware and software prerequisites, and then cancel installation after the required prerequisites have been determined.
We recommend that you also review the key concepts of Operations Manager. Documents to review include the following:
This document contains the following sections:

Operations Manager Virtualization Support

Microsoft supports running all Operations Manager server features in any physical or virtual environment that meets the minimum requirements that are stated in this document. However, for performance reasons, we recommend that you store the operational database and data warehouse database on a directly attached physical hard drive, and not on a virtual disk. Specifically, virtual computers that are running any Operations Manager server feature must not use any functionality that does not immediately commit all activity on the virtual computer to the virtual hard drive. This includes making use of point-in-time snapshots and writing changes to a temporary virtual hard drive. This is true for every virtualization technology that is used with Operations Manager.

Minimum Screen Resolution Requirements

Operations Manager is optimized for screen resolutions of 1280 x 1024 or larger. The minimum supported screen resolution is 1024 x 768.
Minimum Hardware Requirements
Use the Operations Manager Sizing Helper to determine hardware requirements for each Operations Manager server feature. If you want to install more than one feature on the same computer, use the higher of the recommended hardware requirements for any of the combined features.
